After bankruptcy, Bonus

General Motors had to be bailed out by the US Government in 2008 and 2009 to remain in business. This year the 26K strong workforce of GM in Detroit is expected to get Bonus in the range of 4% to 16%.

This is interesting not only for reason that General Motors has turned around its financials but also because the minimum bonus payable to a workman in India, even in a loss making company, is 8.33% and the maximum bonus is 20%. Thanks to to the Indian law makers, a sinking company would meet its definite end every accounting year end if the set on/off  under the Bonus Act were not to hold on!
